Hello, welcome to my blog, my name is Alain Tolhurst and I love Manchester

Ive lived in Manchester all my life, and I’m passionate about all things to do with this wet, cold, beautiful place. This blog is supposed to be my commentary about whats going on, from music and sport to politics, social issues and the media.

I am a passionate Manchester United fan and will try not to write too much about them and give focus to our sky blue neighbours (and their cheque books), and also I love going to watch Sale Sharks, even if it is freezing every single time I venture to Edgeley Park.
My other passion is live music, and I consume it as much as I can at Manchester’s varied venues, and I will use this blog to try and guide the reader to the best places to go and the best people to see, such as the band Apes fight Back you can see above.
As well as being a Manc, I am also a trainee journalist, and so from time to time I will write about issues in modern journalism, especially online journalism and social media.
My schedule is supposed to run something like this but I probably won’t keep to it. If you have any views on what I write then please get involved, if it’s telling me that Ive spelt something wrong or that you think I’m an idiot then thats fine, I promise not to tell WordPress that you’re a spammer.

Hey Alain!
How’s all? I’m just emailing as a follow up to Sagar’s (Bloody Awful Poetry) email a couple weeks ago about our new free music club Next Biggest Thing, in the hope that you might have had the chance to have a little read up/ listen to what we’re doing? The first track we’re giving away is Holes by Why Why Peaches and the giveaway email will be sent out next Monday (4th April). Then the subsequent launch party show will be on Sat 9th April at The Wheelbarrow, which again will be free entry to all members of the mailing list.
Would be great if you have had a lil peruse and might fancy giving a mention to the track and free party show in this coming week, though equally, no probs if it’s not really your bag!
The next track will be by an awesome band called Francobollo, so we’ll send you details of that at the beginning of April too, unless you’d prefer us to just leave you alone?!
Hope all’s well anyway and it’d be great to hear back from you either way…
Joel
